Job Description:
The Director of Outreach and Family Life will work closely with the Lead Pastor to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for connecting, assimilating and discipling people inside and outside the walls of Orange Friends Church. This person will missionally engage the unchurched and unconnected in our surrounding community, particularly focusing on building relationships in surrounding schools. They will help establish and grow an outreach and discipleship ministry for middle and high school students within OFC, with a focus on “Loving People Around Us; Connecting Them to Christ.”

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build bridges to local schools, especially with the nearby Olentangy school district
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with students, faculty, coaches, and parachurch organizations at schools (FCA, YoungLife, etc.)
  • Systematize and organize an intentional school outreach strategy, including regular weekly hours “in the field”
  • Plan and oversee outreach events that will bring students and school organizations to OFC
  • Develop strategies for reaching middle and high school students through existing OFC events and programs (VBS, open gym, sports, etc.)
  • Work with the Lead Pastor to develop an intentional outreach strategy to help accomplish the vision of OFC
  • Plan and execute regular events, programs, and mission projects that will expose the surrounding community to OFC
  • Plan and execute an outreach strategy for reaching neighborhoods in the immediate vicinity of OFC with the gospel
  • Plan and oversee annual community service weekend
  • Develop and oversee sports ministry strategy with eye toward outreach to the community and discipleship within the church
  • Work with the Lead Pastor to develop and implement an intentional strategy for launching and growing a high school and middle school discipleship program
  • Build core student group and generate excitement about getting new program off the ground
  • Actively recruit and equip high school and middle school discipleship leaders, affirming and placing people according to their gifting
  • Work with the Lead Pastor to determine Director’s role in ongoing youth discipleship
  • Be an essential member of our Sunday morning ministry team by teaching Sunday School, providing an “up-front” presence, organizing volunteers, etc.
  • Oversee international and local missions projectsWork with Lead Pastor to determine intentional strategy to help OFC make disciples of all nations
  • Plan and oversee OFC annual summer mission trip for adults, with possibility of separate annual trip for students as group grows
  • Cultivate partnerships with local and international outreach organizations and missionaries, and help spearhead OFC’s relational connections with them

Administrative responsibilities

  • Manage budget for specific ministry areas
    Develop OFC outreach, missions, and youth policies and procedures as needed
  • Organize and maintain OFC ministry relationships binder
  • Evaluate all programming and events through the lens of OFC’s mission and vision statements
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Maintain regular office hours and keep strong communication with Lead Pastor, staff, and congregation

  • A heart that abides with Jesus and a life that demonstrates the fruit of the Spirit
  • A passion to see God’s Kingdom grow as He works in and through His Church
  • An alignment with and willingness to abide by the Faith and Practice of the Evangelical Friends Church – Eastern Region
  • Teachable and team-minded, with an ability to lead from the “second chair” alongside the Lead Pastor
  • Self-motivated with good time-management skills, with an ability to develop and stick to a weekly schedule (always allowing room for flexibility in incarnational ministry)
  • Exceptional communication skills with different demographic groups, especially with middle and high school students
  • An outgoing personality and a love for people
  • Bachelor’s degree and experience in a similar ministry field preferred
