Job Description:

• Pastor of Pleasant Plain Friends Church, Pleasant Plain, Iowa
• We are the second oldest Friends Church west of the Mississippi
• We are in a rural community and currently have a small, dedicated congregation

Necessary Skills/Characteristics:

• Believer with proven Christian character, integrity, honesty, and humility
• Exhibits a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and has interpersonal skills to build rapport and positive relationships
• Demonstrates the highest levels of compassion, with ability to support people during periods of grief or end of life
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and listening skills
• Appreciates and values diversity
• Reacts calmly under stressful situations
• Capacity to preach effectively to different age groups

Nice to Have:

• Degree in theology, religion, education, or related field
• Licensed/ordained minister or Chaplain
• Member of the United Society of Friends (Quakers)
• Computer literate
• Ability to provide remote spiritual care via digital platforms
• Successful experience working with children and families
• Sense of humor

Will be Expected to:

• Joyfully support the church and community with time and talents
• Contact and communicate directly with church members on a regular basis to assess needs and provide spiritual/emotional support. This would include home visits, hospital, and nursing home visits
• Continue in your own personal spiritual growth and improvement of ministry and leadership skills
• Extend reach into the community to grow ministry and help rebuild the church
• Participate in Iowa Yearly Meeting and Quarterly Meeting activities
• Oversee worship services and small group formation/spiritual growth classes

• Salary negotiable – could be part-time or full-time
• If church membership/support grows under your leadership, your salary will reflect those efforts
• Parsonage with utilities paid: 3 bedrooms, 1 bath on main floor; additional bedroom or bonus room upstairs; non-traditional bathroom in basement
